For the second consecutive year, Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation has been named one of AARP’s 50 Best Employers for Workers over 50. Intuitive was named to the select group of best employers following a nationwide application process and extensive vetting prior to final selection. Key areas of consideration included: recruiting practices; opportunities for training, education and career development; workplace accommodations; alternative work options, such as flexible scheduling, job sharing, and phased retirement; employee health and pension benefits; retiree benefits; and age diversity of the workforce.

Intuitive President and Chief Operating Officer Harold R. Brewer said, "It is an honor to be recognized by AARP for our innovative policies that support an experienced workforce culture and environment. Intuitive’s goal is to develop and nurture a cross generational workforce, supplying our customers with outstanding products and services. ”

Intuitive continues the practices that also awarded us the prestigious 2007 AARP Bernard E. Nash Award for Innovation for retiree work opportunities. We understand that employers who are progressive in their policies toward 50-plus workers have more productive employees. Employees 50 and over are tremendous assets and bring extensive skill and experience to the workplace.

Intuitive provides a myriad of services in programmatic support, systems engineering, product development, production systems support, rapid prototyping and technology management solutions to the Department of Defense, government agencies, and commercial companies.

Leadership Huntsville/Madison County Becomes Incorporated

Don Nalley, vice chair for economic development of the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County Board of Directors, presents Sarah Savage, President/CEO of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County, and Doc Holladay, Leadership Board Chair, a plaque commemorating the incorporation of Leadership.
Leadership Huntsville/Madison County (LHMC) recently announced its transition to an independent, non-profit community leadership organization. For the last 22 years, Leadership has been under the umbrella of the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County and its Foundation. This evolution moves LHMC into a structure similar to other large community Leadership organizations, including Birmingham, Nashville, Atlanta, Louisville and Seattle.

“This transition begins a new and exciting era for Leadership,” President/CEO Sarah Savage said. “Countless community leaders have donated time and resources to build this legacy. It is now incumbent upon us to ensure Leadership remains relevant and supports our community's future growth."

Leadership Board Chair Doc Holladay said about the transition, “Leadership is grateful for the guidance and support shown by the Chamber of Commerce and Chamber of Commerce Foundation during the past two decades. They have been like parents who raise their children to become independent adults. Leadership is now ready to become a fully independent organization.”

Tommy Beason, chair of the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County Foundation and past chair of the board of directors, discussed the importance of the Leadership Program for the community. “When I was chairman of the Chamber in 2004, I first found out the importance of this organization. I am a little sad, but happy that they are moving on,” Beason said.

Don Nalley, Chamber vice chair of economic development, also delivered congratulatory remarks and pledged the Chamber’s continued support for Leadership. “You have always been and will always be a partner in this community. We may be taking different initiatives, but we are both trying to make this community a smart place to live, work and play,” Nalley said.

LHMC’s mission is to identify, educate and inspire leaders to serve our community. Through its six programs, Leadership serves more than 300 adults and youth each year, and more than 1,000 alumni.

Huntsville Hospital Earns 2008 Consumer Choice Award

For the seventh consecutive year, National Research Corporation has recognized Huntsville Hospital for its quality with the 2008 Consumer Choice Award. Alongside UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery and co-recipients Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and Providence Hospital in Mobile, Huntsville Hospital is one of five hospitals statewide to receive this year’s honor.

NRC annually conducts a comprehensive survey of more than 200,000 households representing more than 400,000 consumers across the nation to determine which hospitals have the highest quality and image in more than 250 major healthcare markets.

Huntsville Hospital CEO David Spillers said the NRC award exemplifies how Huntsville Hospital’s physicians and staff are accomplishing the hospital’s vision to be one of the best in America. “This honor is very important because it reflects how our patients feel about the clinical and service excellence available at Huntsville Hospital,” he said.

Ginny Martin, president of NRC’s Healthcare Marketing Guide Division, said winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings. “Consumers continue to be empowered to make decisions for themselves and their families when selecting their healthcare facilities and services,” Martin said. “As care options multiply and consumer perception of quality grows in importance, dedication to providing a high level of quality healthcare becomes essential for hospitals. The 225 national Consumer Choice award winners were listed in Modern Healthcare magazine, Sept. 29, 2008, edition. NRC has more than two decades of experience in healthcare performance measurement and improvement.”
